Equipping Today’s Students for Tomorrow’s Mission

Algebra 2

Legacy’s Algebra 2 program is a college-preparatory course focused on functions, including graphing, transformations, and solving, for linear, absolute value, quadratic, cubic and higher order polynomials, radical, rational, exponential, and logarithmic functions. A variety of instructional strategies are used, such as small group work and class lectures, to cater to different learning styles. The course also integrates ACT Prep and the use of a graphing calculator, ensuring that students are well-equipped for both standardized testing and real-world application. Upon completing this course, students are thoroughly prepared for dual enrollment college algebra in their senior year.

Pre-requisite skills needed:

To be successful in Algebra 2, students must have successfully completed Algebra 1, with an active working knowledge of:

  • solving multi-step linear and absolute value equations
  • graphing and finding the equations of linear functions, including in slope-intercept and standard forms
  • working with polynomials, including adding, subtracting, multiplying polynomials
  • factoring polynomials, including using the GCF, factoring x^2 and ax^2 trinomials, difference of squares, factor by grouping, and factoring completely
  • how to simplify, multiply, and divide radicals that are not perfect squares
  • midpoint and distance formulas

Note: A TI-84+ graphing calculator and The ACT Math Workout by Marks Prep are required for this class.

Geometry is taught by Ms. Leann Warren.
