Legacy Tutorial

Equipping Today’s Students for Tomorrow’s Mission

Geometry

Legacy’s Geometry program is an algebra-based geometry course that focuses on continuing to develop algebra skills learned previously while learning about geometric topics and proofs. Students will leave class each week with the knowledge and skills to complete the topics being studied each week. A variety of strategies are used in class, including small group work and class lectures. Students will complete the notes pages in class, which will be used to help them recall how to complete the homework.

To see a list of topics studied, see the course outline below.

Pre-requisite skills needed:

To be successful in Geometry, students must have successfully completed Algebra 1, with an active working knowledge of:

  • positive and negative numbers (adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing), fractions, and decimals
  • solving multi-step linear equations, including variables on both sides and that involve combining multiple variables
  • understanding rules of exponents (ie x^2 times x^7 = x^9)
  • working with linear functions, including identifying the slope and y-intercept, solving for standard form, and graphing
  • solving for sides using the Pythagorean Theorem
  • how to simplify, multiply, and divide radicals that are not perfect squares
  • solving equations through 2-step equations (ie 2x+1=5) and equations with x on both sides
  • midpoint and distance formulas

Note: A TI-84+ graphing calculator and The ACT Math Workout by Marks Prep are required for this class.

Geometry is taught by Ms. Leann Warren.
